Saudi Arabia announces new health insurance rules for domestic workers: Report

The rules will be applicable when a household in Saudi Arabia employs four or more domestic helps

Domestic workers in Saudi Arabia will be given health insurance, following the approval of the kingdom’s Council of Ministers on Tuesday.

The rules were formed by the Council of Health Insurance and with the membership of several entities, according to a report by the Saudi Gazette.

However, the rules will be applicable when a household employs four or more domestic helps.

The Cabinet discussed recent political developments in the region and globally, particularly the progress of the initiative to resolve the Sudan crisis based on agreements reached in preliminary talks between representatives of the conflicting parties, the report said.

The Cabinet emphasised Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting Sudan until it achieves security and peace.

Minister of Media Salman Al-Dosari mentioned that the Cabinet addressed Saudi Arabia’s efforts to strengthen relations with various countries, expand cooperation through visits and meetings, and establish connections with multilateral organizations to enhance teamwork and coordination on shared issues.

Regarding Saudi Arabia’s participation in the 9th Summit of Heads of State and/or Government of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) in Guatemala, the Cabinet commended the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering friendship and cooperation with ACS countries and working with international partners to achieve sustainable development goals by 2030.

The Cabinet also praised the successful outcomes of the anti-drug security campaign in combating criminal networks, drug promotion, and smuggling attempts, aimed at protecting citizens and preserving the country’s achievements.

Several decisions were made by the Cabinet, including authorizing the Minister of Finance to discuss a draft memorandum of understanding with Turkey’s Ministry of Finance and Treasury to enhance financial cooperation.

Furthermore, the authority to issue licenses for the teaching and educational consultancy profession will be transferred from the Ministry of Commerce to the Ministry of Education.
