The UAE Public Prosecution has announced the launch of a new criminal media centre – Waey. The platform aims at increasing legal literacy and increasing awareness of criminal laws among the general public.
The centre will be behind an array of initiatives and programmes to promote positive behaviour and spread a culture of tolerance including media awareness, legal guidance and community outreach, WAM reported.
To ensure the optimal reach of its message, the centre will leverage media channels and emerging technologies. This will also help to target the youth.
The UAE Public Prosecution announced the launch via a post on Twitter on Tuesday.
“Public Prosecution launches ‘Waey’ Criminal Information Centre,” the post read.
According to the announcement, the Waey Criminal Media Centre will fulfil responsibilities including:
- Developing policies and media plans for legal awareness and guidance.
- Create programmes and initiatives that promote positive behaviour and tolerance within the community, especially among youth.
- Measure and monitor negative social behaviours and phenomena that affect Emiati societal values.
- Conduct scientific studies and research in the fields of legal and societal media.
- Launch awareness campaigns about the dangers of negative social behaviours and phenomena and how to deal with them or overcome them.
- Enhance legal culture among community members and raise public awareness of laws.
