The Abu Dhabi Police has seized 107 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and hashish from a drug smuggling attempt. Six suspects of Arab and Asian nationalities were arrested.

Brigadier Taher Gharib Al Dhaheri, director of the anti-narcotics department at Abu Dhabi Police, said six suspects of Arab and Asian nationalities were arrested.

“The operation dubbed ‘Secret Hidings’ was successful,” Abu Dhabi Police’s director of the anti-narcotics department Brigadier Taher Gharib Al Dhaheri said.

Al Dhaheri said, the gang members were “very cautious and buried the drugs in different and secret locations,” adding that “they were arrested red-handed as they were burying some of the drugs.”

He also said that criminals are coming up with new ways to smuggle drugs into the nation, and assured that the police will continue to prevent such attempts from occurring and will keep the public safe.

“As responsible and positive citizens, public members must not hesitate to report any information they have that may be related to drug crimes,” said Al Dhaheri said.

Further details have not been disclosed.

Recently, police in the UAE joined forces with Europol to take down a cocaine “super-cartel” believed to have controlled one third of the supply of the illegal drug in Europe.

Europol says 49 suspects were arrested, including six high-value targets in the UAE.

Co-ordinated raids were carried out across Europe and the UAE, from November 8 to 19, targeting both the command-and-control centre and the logistical drugs trafficking infrastructure in Europe.

Dubai Customs also seized 417.30 grams of marijuana in the form of 399 rolls, stuffed inside pineapples, in November.

Police officials nabbed a passenger coming from an African country at Terminal 1 of Dubai International Airport.

Officers raised their suspicion after taking note of a box containing pineapples, transported from an African country, Dubai Customs said in a statement. The passenger was then stopped for an inspection.
