UAE holds iftar in Israel

Held for the first time ever, the event saw attendees from members of the Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Druze communities

For the first time ever, an iftar was held in Israel hosted by the UAE ambassador to Israel – Mohamed Al Khaja.

“Honored to host Ramadan Iftar for the first time in Israel,” he said via a post on Twitter. The ambassador also shared images from the night showing members from various communities coming together to pray, eat and celebrate the occassion.

This is a significant move in the history of both countries since the signing of the Abraham Accords in 2020.

“Thank you to the many leading members of Israeli society from the Jewish, Muslim, Christian & Druze sectors for joining me this evening. Wishing all those observing Ramadan a month of peace, compassion & tolerance,” the post read.

Earlier this month, The Abrahamic Family House, located in Abu Dhabi officially opened its doors to the public. A unified complex located in Saadiyat Island featuring a mosque, a church and a synagogue will act as “a cultural and architectural beacon of peaceful human coexistence that represents each of the Abrahamic faiths,” according to a statement by the Media office.

UAE president Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during the inaugration announceent took it to Twitter to express the UAE’s “proud history of people from diverse communities working together to create new possibilities.”

The three geometric houses, will welcome visitors from across the world, allowing them to “worship, learn and engage” in dialogue.
