UAE police have warned of the dangers of crowding accident sites in the country.

Abu Dhabi Police and the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority said that crowds at the sites of traffic accidents and fires can stop emergency services from lifesaving operations.

Police authorities said fines of up to AED1,000 ($272) would be placed on individuals impeding traffic at the site of an accident.

In a statement on social media channels Abu Dhabi Police said the dangers caused by crowds stopping to observe accident sites and fires include preventing ambulances, emergency vehicles and traffic patrols from quickly arriving at the location.

This can prevent humanitarian assistance and stop authorities from saving lives.

Vehicles slowing down to observe a traffic site and even the arrival of pedestrians to look at accident sites can lead to further incidents. Motorists and pedestrians observing traffic accidents can lead to additional collisions, said the Abu Dhabi Police message.

As well as a fine of AED1,000 ($272) for crowding accident sites, police in the UAE warned against taking photographs.

The Abu Dhabi Police message said: “Crowding curious people at traffic accident sites, photographing vehicles involved in accidents and injured people and posting photos on social media is unacceptable behaviour that brings their owners to legal accountability”.
