One of coronavirus’s enduring economic impacts is that it highlighted the weaknesses in today’s corporate culture, leading to what has been dubbed as the Great Resignation where thousands of employees are leaving their jobs because of feeling “overworked and stressed out,” Indra Nooyi, former CEO of PepsiCo and currently on the board of Amazon, told Arabian Business in an exclusive interview.
Now is the time for a great reckoning to examine the corporate culture, especially when it comes to its treatment of essential workers, who have emerged as the heroes of the pandemic, said Nooyi.
Nooyi, who is from India, was the first foreign-born CEO of Pepsi and the first woman to lead the chips-and-soda behemoth, a role which she resigned from in 2018 after 24 years with the company. Based on that experience, Nooyi shares her advice with the region’s female leaders as well as giving her insights on the topic du jour, corporate sustainability.
Nooyi spoke to Arabian Business ahead of her participation in this year’s Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, taking place on February 3, where she will be promoting her bestselling book My Life in Full.
