Dubai health chiefs have announced that licences were issued to 171 health facilities in the first half of this year.
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) also issued licences to 6,139 healthcare professionals in the same period, according to Dr Layla Al Marzouqi, director of DHA’s Health Regulatory Department.
Healthcare facilities that were licensed included three hospitals, four day-surgery centres, 87 polyclinics, 62 pharmacies, four diagnostic facilities and 11 other health-care facilities, news agency WAM reported.
The 6,130 healthcare professionals who were licensed included 1,044 physicians, 2,791 nurses, 1,868 allied healthcare professionals, 419 dentists and 17 alternative medicine specialists.
DHA hired more than 1,600 medical staff during 2014 bringing the total workforce to 11,135.
Of the 1,600 staff recruited, 328 were administration staff, 224 medical staff, 534 nurses, 222 paramedics and 26 were medical trainees, said Maryam Subaih, director of human resources at the DHA, earlier this year.
More than one million patients were treated at Dubai Health Authority-run hospitals and specialty centres in 2014, it was announced in January.
