Dubai-based MBC Group has signed a deal for exclusive Middle Eastern and North African rights to broadcast an Arabic version of the musical reality TV show ‘The Voice’, it was announced this week.
The contract was signed at MBC Group’s headquarters in Dubai with Talpa and Sony Pictures Television Arabia, the format’s owners.
‘The Voice’ was launched as ‘The Voice of Holland’ in January 2011 and has been sold to 45 countries and is screened in 140 territories, including the US and UK.
The premise is based on ‘blind auditions’ where four celebrity judges, which have included Christina Aguilera and Tom Jones, can only hear the singers’ voices and cannot judge them on their appearance.
Auditions for the localised version of ‘The Voice’ will be held in the UAE, Egypt, Kuwait, Tunisia, Lebanon and Morocco. The show will be broadcast from MBC’s studios in Beirut.
MBC Group also has the rights to reality shows Arabs Got Talent and Arab Idol.
