The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA will be promoted to the prestigious ‘Rolex Series’ next year, replacing the French Open.
The annual tournament, which will take place at Abu Dhabi Golf Club next year from January 16-19, will be included as one of eight tournaments on the European Tour on the Rolex Series.
The biggest benefit of being included on the Rolex Series, which is an alliance of leading tournaments, is the increased prize money on offer. The Abu Dhabi Championship will now see its purse increase from $3 million to $7m, which in turn will attract more of the world’s top golfers.

The Dubai Duty Free Irish Open (held in July this year) and the end of season DP World Tour Championship (at Jumeirah Golf Estates Nov 15-18) are also on this year’s Rolex Series, and will be included in next year’s list.
The decision was one of several changes to the golfing calendar by European golf chiefs, including the previously announced Saudi International, which will be held at Royal Greens G&CC in King Abdullah Economic City.
