Sharjah number plate sold for over $700k at auction

Total of $4.49m collected through auction, says Emirates Auction

RTA offered 90 distinctive plates in the open auction comprising of two, three, four and five-digit plates.

A Sharjah car licence plate with the number ‘2’ has been sold for $708,446 (AED2.6 million) in an online auction, it was announced on Sunday.

The auction for vanity plate numbers was organised by Sharjah Police in collaboration with Emirates Auction from November 20 to December 2. The auction garnered funds of $4.49 million (AED16.48 million), the organisers said.

Number plate ‘11’ was sold for $544,959 (AED2 million), while number plates ‘21’ and ‘33’ were sold for $299,727 (AED1.1 million) and $463,215 (AED1.7 million) respectively.

The auction saw the participation of over 620 bidders, Emirates Auction said, adding it was viewed by over 450,000 people via its mobile app and website.

In June 2016, Sharjah licence plate number ‘1’ was sold for AED18 million ($4.9m) at an auction.
