Law enforcement authorities in the UAE have foiled an attempt to smuggle 126kg of crystal meth (Methamphetamine) and hashish into Dubai onboard a speedboat.
Six suspects were arrested in the sting, which happened in late December, state news agency WAM reported on Thursday.
Law agencies targeted their wooden speedboat as it sailed into Dubai Creek from a neighboring country, according to Colonel Saeed Abdullah Al-Tuwairi, head of the Federal Anti-Narcotics Directorate General at the Ministry of Interior.
About 60kg of crystal meth and 66kg of hashish were concealed inside the compartment which housed the vessel’s lifeboat, he added in comments publised by WAM.
The person identified as the recipient of the drugs was arrested and will be tried, the official added.
The operation was coordinated with the UAE Armed Forces’ Coast Guard, Dubai Customs and the Anti-Narcotics Unit of Dubai Police.
Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system.
