Andrew Tate, the British-American controversial kickboxer and former reality TV star has been arrested in Romania on suspicion of human trafficking, rape and forming an organised crime group.

Tate was arrested along with his brother Tristan and two other Romanian suspects after a raid on their properties in Bucharest.

Tate is expected to be detained for 24 hours, Romanian anti organised-crime unit prosecutors said in a statement carried by Reuters.

“The four suspects … appear to have created an organised crime group with the purpose of recruiting, housing and exploiting women by forcing them to create pornographic content meant to be seen on specialised websites for a cost,” prosecutors said.

They added that they had found six women who had been sexually exploited by the suspects.

Tate is banned from several social media platforms for his misogynistic comments and hate speech. He recently said women are partially responsible for being raped and that they belong to men.

Just earlier this week, Tate was in news after an exchange with climate activist Greta Thunberg on Twitter, a platform that has suspended his account three times. He is also permanently banned from Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.
