Dubai’s General Directorate of Civil Defense has launched commercial operations of its Emirates Safety Laboratory (ESL) following the successful completion of its operational trials.
The ESL facility uses latest cutting-edge technology and best-in-class processes to ensure equipment used in the construction sector comply with the highest industry standards.
ESL Laboratory and Certification, which has obtained international accreditation, will be the official authority to issue completion and compliance certificates for safety products in Dubai’s construction industry.
After its launch, the laboratory conducted its first commercial testing – an assessment of equipment and building safety systems at Middle East-based manufacturer of firefighting products, NAFFCO.
Following the testing, the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Dubai officially approved NAFFCO products, making it the first company to receive accreditation from the newly launched Emirates Safety Laboratory (ESL).
The director-general of the Dubai Civil Defense and the chairman of the Board of Directors of ESL, Lt Gen Expert Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, said that the laboratory and certification body, which is the first government conformity assessment entities in the Middle East, has been launched as part of the organisation’s efforts to ensure the highest safety standards in the construction sector.
ESL will work to further enhance fire safety in Dubai and contribute to the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to transform the emirate into a global centre for clean and renewable energy by 2050.
The launch ceremony for the ESL was also attended by Brig Expert Ali Hassan Al Mutawa, the assistant director-general of Dubai Civil Defense for Fire and Rescue Affairs, as well as Khalid Al Khatib, the CEO of NAFFCO.
