All proceeds from the sale of the number plates and phone numbers will go to the One Billion Meals campaign

Dubai auction Ramadan

Dubai’s ‘P 7’ number plate has set a new record as the most expensive license plate in the world after a bidder paid Dh55 million ($15 million) for it.

The auction, held at the Four Seasons hotel in Jumeirah, was organised by Emirates Auction, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, Etisalat and Du, and raised nearly AED100 million ($27 million) for the One Billion Meals campaign, which aims to combat global hunger.

The ‘P 7’ plate attracted a bidding war between several people who were keen to break the existing record set in 2008 when a businessman paid AED52.2 million for Abu Dhabi’s number 1 plate.

All proceeds to go for Dubai One Billion Meals campaign

The second highest number plate sold was AA22, which fetched AED8.4 million ($2.3 million), followed by AA19 for AED4.9 million ($1.34m). The sale also included H31, W78, N41, X36, Z37, and AA80, among others.

Besides number plates, ten mobile phone numbers from Du and 11 phone numbers from Etisalat were also auctioned off.

In addition, the highest-priced phone number was 971548888888, which sold for AED2.3 million. All proceeds from the sale of the number plates and phone numbers will go to the One Billion Meals campaign, launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The One Billion Meals Endowment takes a new approach to helping those in need during Ramadan.

Instead of donations being spent directly on food parcels, they will go into endowment funds from which financial returns will be spent on feeding the needy.

In April 2022, an auction was conducted in Abu Dhabi to support the One Billion Meals campaign, and it raised AED111 million ($30.2 million) in total.

One of the items sold at the auction was a unique car number plate, which belonged exclusively to Abu Dhabi, and it was purchased for AED23.3 million.
