The UAE Food Bank and Majid Al Futtaim, which owns the exclusive rights to operate Carrefour in the UAE, announced a strategic collaboration to provide over 3,300 meals daily during the Ramadan period this year.
This initiative is in line with Carrefour’s strategy to enable a reliable food security ecosystem and supports the UAE Food Bank’s 1,000 Meals programme, Majid Al Futtaim said.
Carrefour’s contribution to the food distribution programme will be by way of supplying all meat and grocery items required for meal preparation.
UAE Food Bank collaboration
To ensure the seamless preparation of the Iftar meals, the UAE Food Bank and Carrefour will collaborate with Taya Art Production, a member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for SME Development.
Prepared meals will be distributed daily to workers in key locations across the UAE through the coordinated efforts of the UAE Food Bank and Carrefour’s ‘Care Vans’.
These mobile units will also provide dates and water at traffic signals, bus stops, and metro stations across Dubai, ensuring that commuters can break their fast even while on the move.
Alongside meal preparation, Taya Art Production will produce a Ramadan television series showcasing the culinary process behind the meals, while also promoting innovative ways to repurpose surplus food and minimise waste—a key objective shared by both the UAE Food Bank and Carrefour.
Dr Günther Helm, Chief Executive Officer of Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said the company is steadfast in its commitment to initiatives that address food security and uplift the local community.
“Ramadan, as a celebration of generosity and giving, inspired us to launch our ‘Unlock the Spirit of Ramadan’ initiative and our partnership with the UAE Food Bank is a cornerstone of this endeavour – allowing us to distribute 100,000 meals to those who need it most,” he said.
Manal Bin Yaroof, Head of the Executive Team of the UAE Food Bank, the collaboration with Carrefour exemplifies the organization’s commitment to fostering a culture of giving and sustainability, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
“We are reinforcing our shared vision of responsible food management and social solidarity,” she said.
The collaboration further solidifies the longstanding partnership between Majid Al Futtaim and the UAE Food Bank.
