The UAE has announced a holiday for all private sector workers on Saturday, October 8 to mark Prophet Muhammed’s (PBUH) birthday.
The holiday was announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) on Tuesday.
The Prophet’s birthday is observed on 12 Rabi’ Al-Awwal 1444, which is the third month according to the Islamic calendar.
Public and private sectors in the Emirates typically have unified holidays.
Aside from this, the UAE is expected to have a long weekend in the first week December, starting with Commemoration Day on December 1, which falls on a Thursday this year.
Commemoration Day is a day of remembrance for the nation’s heroes who lost their lives whilst serving the country. Following this, December 2 marks the UAE national day.
As of now, official holidays begin from Thursday, December 1 until Sunday, December 4.
Next year, the first public holiday will fall in the month of April on the account of Eid Al Fitr. Residents can expect a four-day weekend during this time.
