Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems such as ChatGPT have the potential to automate several jobs that involve repetitive and predictable tasks. These include jobs in data entry, customer service, and simple administrative tasks, all of which could be automated using AI technology.

Through the emergence of ChatGPT, which is currently more capable and sophisticated to carry out tasks in a matter of minutes, the AI system holds the potential to replace complex tasks such as creating content, basic accounting and even some aspects of medical diagnosis.

Many experts have called for the development of AI systems such as GPT-4 to be halted until proper risk management protocols are in place. These experts include some of the biggest names in tech, such as SpaceX, Tesla founder and Twitter chief Elon Musk.

Recently, Goldman Sachs also published a report saying AI could replace the equivalent of 300 million full-time jobs.

According to the report by Goldman Sachs, the use of AI technology in the US and Europe could significantly disrupt the job market, potentially leading to automation of up to two-thirds of jobs.

This could impact around 300 million jobs, but the report also suggests that AI could create new job opportunities. Additionally, the use of AI has the potential to increase productivity growth and boost global GDP by up to seven percent over time.

That being said here are 10 jobs at risk of being replaced by AI systems such as ChatGPT, as per a report by Insider.

ChatGPT, AI systems could replace these 10 jobs:

  1. Tech jobs — coders, computer programmers, software engineers, data analysts
  2. Media jobs — advertising, content creation, technical writing, journalism
  3. Legal industry jobs — paralegals, legal assistants
  4. Market research analysts
  5. Teachers
  6. Finance jobs — Financial analysts, personal financial advisors
  7. Traders
  8. Graphic designers
  9. Accountants
  10. Customer service agents

ChatGPT will only ‘complement and enhance human capabilities’

Arabian Business asked OpenAI’s ChatGPT itself how it would replace people and their jobs, to which the AI chatbot said:

“As an AI language model, ChatGPT is not designed to replace jobs but rather to complement and enhance human capabilities in various fields.

“While ChatGPT can perform certain tasks, such as answering common questions and providing information, it cannot replace human skills that involve physical labor, creativity, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and decision-making, among others.

“Instead of replacing jobs, ChatGPT can help automate some of the repetitive and time-consuming tasks in various industries, allowing humans to focus on more complex and value-added activities. For instance, ChatGPT can assist customer service representatives in handling simple queries, enabling them to dedicate more time to resolving complex issues that require human intervention.

“Moreover, ChatGPT can provide training and support for employees, especially in industries where knowledge and skills are constantly evolving, such as healthcare and technology. This can improve the efficiency and productivity of entry-level workers and enhance their career prospects.

“Overall, ChatGPT’s role is to collaborate with humans and support them in their work, rather than replace them.”

Human skills are very much important

Nevertheless, while AI can automate many tasks, it cannot replace all jobs. There are several jobs that require human skills such as creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence, which cannot be easily automated.

Moreover, as AI takes over some jobs, new jobs are also created that require new skills to manage and develop AI systems.

These new jobs are likely to require higher levels of education and training, which could provide opportunities for people to develop their skills and grow in their respective careers.
