Apple is said to start manufacturing its new iPhone 14 devices in India, instead of China, as the technology giant seeks to mitigate production disruptions.

The company, which is expected to announced the new iPhone in September, has been working with suppliers to ramp up production in the South Asian country to shorten the lag in manufacturing from the typical six to nine months for previous launches, Bloomberg has reported.

Apple has long been producing its devices from China, but recent geopolitical developments have pushed the company to seek alternatives. In India, the tech giant already works with three local manufacturing partners.

In another report, Apple’s Taiwan-based supplier Foxconn Technology said it was exploring the possibility of shipping items from China and assembling the iPhone 14 at its plant in the southern Indian city of Chennai.

India-manufactured iPhone 14s could be ready by late October or November, following an initial release in September.

The launch is expected to be on September 7, with sales starting on September 16.
