Riad Kamal is the CEO of Arabtec Holding and the founder and executive chairman of Arabtec Construction, the Gulf’s biggest construction and engineering company.
A familiar face in the region’s construction industry, Kamal began his career as a civil engineer for Shaheen Engineering & Contracting in 1966.
This was followed by a post with Sir Robert McAlpine Engineering, London in 1970, before Arabtec was founded in 1979.
Now the biggest player in the crowded Middle East construction market, Arabtec’s first contract was to build a trio of cold stores in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Muscat.
Today the firm has progressed to some of the Gulf’s most elaborate buildings, including the world’s tallest tower, the Burj Khalifa.
In addition to his Arabtec roles, Kamal is a director of Arab Bank and a director and member of the advisory board at Gulf Capital.
He also serves as director of Abu Dhabi fit-out firm Depa, of Turkland Bank, of Lebanon’s Arabia Insurance, and of Dubai’s Satellite Inter-Active Systems.
Kamal holds a BSc in civil engineering and an MSc in construction engineering from the University of London.
