Siemens has picked up two major contracts to build substation projects in Abu Dhabi. It won the contracts from Adwea / Transco, beating bids from Toshiba, ABB and ETA.
The first project is a US $20 million substation (AED74 million) at Saadiyat Island.
The project involves 8000m2 of built up area consisting of a 400kV substation building, 132kV and 22kV substation buildings, transformer bays, reactor compounds, pump house and control buildings. The scope of work involves the construction of buildings and associated works including design for small power and lighting. The project consultant is Mott MacDonald. Construction is scheduled for completion in June 2008.
The second project is a $7.9 million (AED29 million) power network development works for Yas Island. The work will involve 5000,2 of built up area, consisting of 132kV and 22kV substation buildings, transformer bays, control rooms and small power and lighting. Lahymeyer International is the project consultant. Construction is scheduled for completion in August 2008.
The main civil works subcontractor for both projects is Abu Dhabi based Target Engineering, beating bids from CCC, Actco and Green Oasis.
