Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) has unveiled its most substantial 220 kV substation to date, situated in the airport area of Umm Fannin.
The project, completed at a cost of over AED 500 million, represents a significant enhancement to Sharjah’s energy infrastructure.
SEWA collaborated with Siemens Energy and General Projects Company for Mechanical and Electrical Contracting to deliver the installation.
Sharjah’s largest electrical substation launches with 1,200 MW capacity
Hamad Al-Tunaiji, Director of Energy Transmission, stated that the authority is committed to continually developing power transmission and distribution networks across Sharjah.
According to SEWA officials, the project adhered to the highest global standards to ensure quality, efficiency, and reliability in sustainable energy provision.
The new facility houses four 400 MVA transformers (220/132 kV) and four 75 MVA transformers (132/33 kV), delivering a total capacity exceeding 1,200 MW.
This expansion will serve vital areas of Sharjah, meeting the city’s increasing energy requirements whilst improving the electrical grid’s reliability and flexibility.
The substation will also support Sharjah’s economic and urban development, ensuring future energy demands can be met.
Abdullah Al-Koos, Deputy Director of Energy Transmission, affirmed that the opening of this station represents a major achievement for SEWA, reinforcing its commitment to providing a reliable and modern energy infrastructure for Sharjah, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.
