Dubai Health Authority has revealed that the number of registered physicians now working in its facilities have exceeded 8,700, up 82 percent compared to just seven years ago.
Its annual report for 2017 showed Dubai has one of the highest physician-to-population ratios in the world – 2.9 doctors for every 1,000 residents.
It also showed a significant growth in the number of patients treated, with more than two million visiting the authority’s hospitals and primary healthcare centres in Dubai.
DHA said 321,241 were Rashid Hospital patients, 381,334 visited Dubai Hospital, 149,640 visited Latifa hospital, 122,327 visited Hatta Hospital and 1,039,470 visited the authority’s 12 primary healthcare centres.
There are 2,193 hospital beds spread across DHA’s hospitals including 779 beds in Rashid Hospital and 678 in Dubai Hospital.
The number of surgical operations performed in DHA hospitals during 2017 was 26,000, with an average of 2,208 monthly operations. Major operations amounted to 13,771 and accounted to 52 percent of surgeries, the report said.
It added that the most common surgeries included orthopedic surgery (20.4 percent), and obstetrics and gynecology (19.2 percent).
The authority also recorded 2,257,393 visits to its outpatient clinics, where Emirati nationals constituted 65.7 percent while the total number of attendees in DHA dental clinics was 167,700 patients.
The report also showed that DHA’s 17 medical fitness centres performed 2,012,361 tests during 2017.
