Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg have agreed to fight each other in a cage match in what would be a sensational battle of the billionaires.

As rumours persist that Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta is preparing a rival social media network to Twitter called Threads, Musk and Zuckerberg could be going head-to-head in direct combat.

The Social Media Smackdown was first mooted as an apparent joke by Twitter owner Elon Musk.

Musk v Zuckerberg cage fight

Engaged in a Twitter conversation about Meta’s reported plans to launch a rival social media network, a user jokingly told Elon Musk “Better be careful, I heard he does jiu jitsu now”.

Musk replied “I’m up for a cage match if he is lol”.

As with many of the Twitter owner’s jokes on the platform, it could have ended there – but Facebook founder Zuckerberg has accepted the challenge at face value.

On an Instagram story Mark Zuckerberg shared a screenshot of the exchange with the words “”Send me location”.

Also not backing down, Elon has suggested the Vegas Octagon – an arena used for UFC fights – as the suggested location.

The Twitter owner confirmed he will go ahead with the fight, saying “If this if for real, I will do it”.

Meanwhile, a Meta spokesperson confirmed that Zuckerberg is interested in going ahead with the fight, saying “The story speaks for itself”.

So, the Battle of the Billionaires could actually happen.

The Twitter and Tesla businessman said: “I have this great move that I call ‘The Walrus’, where I just lie on top of my opponent and do nothing.”

For his part, Zuckerberg, 12 years younger of the two, is a keen martial artist and has recently won jiu-jitsu tournaments.
