Emirates to sponsor AC Milan

Three-year deal makes Italian UEFA Champions League team the Dubai airline’s fourth football sponsorship.

Dubai-based carrier Emirates says it has agreed to sponsor Italian soccer team AC Milan, holders of the UEFA Champions League, for three years.

AC Milan will be the fourth and highly successful football team to be sponsored by Emirates after Paris Saint Germain, Hamburger SV and Arsenal Football Club.

“Emirates signed the three year sponsorship deal at the AC Milan training ground and the familiar ‘Fly Emirates’ signage will now be displayed at AC Milan’s San Siro stadium,” the airline said in a statement late on Wednesday.

AC Milan is current holder of the UEFA Champions League in football and has won 13 European titles, 16 International titles and on the domestic front has won the Serie A title on 17 occasions.

“It is very exciting for Emirates to partner the current champions of Europe,” said Ghaith Al Ghaith, a senior Emirates executive in a statement.

“Emirates has always had a great affinity with the game and this sponsorship extends our support of football across another country.”

Adriano Galliani, AC Milan’s managing director, said the partnership between the two companies was very important.

“We are really proud that Emirates chose AC Milan as the ideal partner to strengthen its presence in our country,” said Galliani. “This partnership underlines the support that Emirates gives to football around the world.”

In addition to the support of AC Milan, Emirates is an official partner of the FIFA World Cup with close links to FIFA and all its projects in the 2007-2014 period.

In 2004, Emirates and Arsenal Football Club signed the biggest club sponsorship in English football history. The airline’s “Fly Emirates” logo appears on Arsenal team shirts and the club’s new home is called the Emirates Stadium.
