Sharjah approves a major package of media projects, including new studios, a government media hub, and cultural and creative facilities

Sharjah has approved a landmark package of media projects within Sharjah Media City “Shams”, marking one of the emirate’s largest ever investments in media infrastructure and government integration.

The initiatives—approved by Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah—aim to create a unified ecosystem that elevates the emirate’s media capabilities, strengthens its cultural presence and supports long-term sector growth.

The projects advance the vision of Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and are supported by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, who is leading efforts to unify government media work into a more efficient and impactful system.

Advanced media model

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi said the approval of the Shams project package reflects the emirate’s ambition to build an advanced media sector grounded in innovation, international partnerships and modern technologies.

He noted that the launch of the new “Shams Studios” will strengthen Sharjah’s ability to attract major production houses and content creators, while creating a platform for national talent to develop skills and expand their presence in the industry.

He added that investment in media is an investment in people and identity, emphasising Sharjah’s continued efforts to reinforce its cultural and knowledge leadership through responsible media, strategic collaboration and a system designed for sustainable sector growth.

Unified government media hub

The project will establish the largest unified government media hub in the UAE and the region. It will bring together key government media entities under one umbrella:

  • Sharjah Media Council
  • Sharjah Government Media Bureau
  • Sharjah Broadcasting Authority
  • Sharjah Media City “Shams”, which will serve as the new headquarters

This integration aims to streamline government media operations, improve communication efficiency and support wider sector development.

A centrepiece of the development is “Shams Studios”, a state-of-the-art production environment consisting of five major studios ranging from 1,500 to 3,400 square metres.

The complex is designed to cater to film, drama and content creators, supported by advanced post-production facilities including editing rooms, visual-effects units and sound-design studios.

The facilities will allow both cinematic and television productions to be executed to the highest global standards.

Government media business complex

The approved projects include a new integrated media business complex uniting:

  • Sharjah Media Council
  • Sharjah Government Media Bureau
  • Media companies operating within Shams

The complex will feature four specialised buildings—each comprising a ground floor and four additional floors—dedicated respectively to the Media Council, the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, and two buildings for media organisations and companies operating within Shams.

This model aims to create an interactive environment that supports innovation, facilitates production and broadcasting workflows, and enhances government communication.

Sharjah Broadcasting Authority

The development also includes a new building for the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority equipped with modern technical infrastructure.

The upgrade strengthens the Authority’s readiness for the latest broadcasting and production technologies and expands its ability to deliver diverse, high-quality content that reflects the emirate’s identity.

Phase one will include the administrative building, the news building, and the Sharjah Sports Channel building.

Shams Creative Oasis

The project package also includes the “Shams Creative Oasis”, a new centre dedicated to artistic and educational activities. The facility features a modern theatre with a capacity of 700 people, alongside spaces for community events, performances and training programmes aimed at developing young talent and supporting the wider cultural sector.
