Abu Dhabi recalls Masafi water bottles

Gov’t found some bottles were found to contain excessive levels of bromide

Abu Dhabi authorities have recalled Masafi bottled water from shelves after some containers were found to contain excessive chemical levels, the WAM official news agency confirmed on Tuesday.

Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA), under instruction from the Ministry of Environment and Water, has withdrawn Masafi 500ml water bottles manufactured on February 17 this year and with an expiry date of February 16, 2013, after they were found to contain high levels of bromide.

WAM reported that the ADFCA had been in touch with the company and the bottles concerned were withdrawn with the last few days.

“The safety of the consumers is our highest priority and no effort will be spared in ensuring that all food products sold or circulated within the emirate are safe and fit for consumption,” said Mohamed Jalal Al Reyaysa, director of communication and community service at ADFCA.

“We would like to clarify that water bottles with manufacturing and expiry dates other than the ones mentioned above are safe,” he added.

Fellow water company Sana’ was also asked to withdraw water manufacturing and expiry dates of February 25 2012 and May 24, 2013, respectively after they were found to contain higher than permitted chemical levels.
