Dubai Mall chiefs pledge to open on Nov 4

Shopping mall bosses insist doors will open for first time at 2pm, despite false dawns.

Dubai Mall chiefs have insisted that the new shopping complex WILL open on Tuesday – despite failing to meet their original deadline last week.

The flagship shopping mall by Emaar Malls Group, will open its doors to the public at 2pm, bosses said on Monday.

The mall was originally scheduled to open in August but suffered a two-month delay.

Then, Arabian Business revealed that its new opening date of October 30 was also being postponed because work was still be carried out to make the mall ready for customers.

When fully complete, the mall will contain more than 1,200 retail units but only half that number will open on day one.

Opening Day celebrations will include the public unveiling at 4pm of the Dubai Aquarium & Discovery Centre. Other opening day attractions include fashion shows, exhibits, galleries and performers.

Mr Yousif Al Ali, general manager, made no comment about the delays that had hit the Dubai Mall schedule but added: “Everything about the mall is innovative and creative. Every detail within the mall, from floor to ceiling, has been carefully planned and executed to the highest aesthetic and architectural standards.”

Dubai Mall will have more 1,200 retail outlets and 160 food & beverage outlets spread over a gross leasable area of 3.77 million sq ft.

Over 165 retailers – or 30 percent of the mall’s total gross leasable area is dedicated to new retailers to the region, or brands opening up standalone stores for the first time.
