Jordanian entertainment firm Rubicon Group Holding (RGH) has acquired the worldwide licensing, merchandising and digital media rights for the collectable toy brand, Monster In My Pocket.
RGH, the company behind the popular children’s television series Ben & Izzy, will produce Monster In My Pocket content for theatrical and television distribution, DVDs, game platforms and online and social media.
Monster In My Pocket, owned by the California-based Morrison Entertainment Group, is best known as a toy-line released by Matchbox in 1990. The original franchise line included trading cards, comics and a video game amongst other items.
RGH in September signed a deal to produce the 3D film version of British children’s classic Postman Pat. The film, slated for release in early 2013, will be produced in association with US owners Classic Media.
Among the actors signed up to voice the characters include Moulin Rouge star Jim Broadbent, Harry Potter star Rupert Grint and Dr Who actor David Tennant.
Rubicon last year said signed a deal with US media giants Paramount and CBS to launch a US$1bn theme park and resort in Jordan.
The group plans to design and produce the Red Sea Astrarium, a 184-acre entertainment resort in Aqaba, Jordan. The entertainment resort will include a Star Trek-themed attraction inspired by the 2009 film Star Trek, which is being developed by Paramount Recreation.
The resort will generate jobs for 4,000 workers in the local community, the company said. It did not specify how the theme park would be funded.
