Blue Bunting ran to victory in a third Group One race this term when winning the Darley Yorkshire Oaks at York in the UK on Thursday.

Her success provided Godolphin trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni with his 100th winner since joining the stable in 2010.

The three-year-old filly, with Frankie Dettori in the saddle, stayed on strongly to secure a comfortable three-quarter length success.

Dettori said in comments published on the Godolphin website: “Blue Bunting is very tough. She has won three Group One races including two Classics. She is never going to be flash and win by a long margin but she is very hard to get past.

“I was keeping an eye on the field and I knew that my strength was Blue Bunting’s stamina. I knew that I had plenty left in the locker if I wanted it and, when I got to a furlong out, I asked her to go and she went clear.”

Al Zarooni added: “I am very pleased and very, very happy for His Highness Sheikh Mohammed and the whole team. She is a tough filly and there are many options for her now. Frankie gave her a very good ride.”

He said the filly was entered in the Group One Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster on September 10).

Blue Bunting is Godolphin’s second winner of the Darley Yorkshire Oaks following Punctilious, who took the spoils in 2005.
