Dubai Police has announced three new specialised strategies aimed at improving road safety and reducing traffic accidents across Dubai, in partnership with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and other key stakeholders.
The plans were outlined during an inspection visit by Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander in Chief of Dubai Police, to the General Department of Traffic.
Dubai Police unveils new road safety plans
The new strategies focus on joint road safety initiatives with the RTA, a comprehensive approach to accident reduction and the development of a safer and more resilient traffic environment.
Senior officers briefed Al Marri on major achievements to date, including joining ACTAR, the International Organisation for the Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction, and securing accreditation from IDEALEST.
Four ACTAR experts have also been certified as part of efforts to strengthen professional capability in accident investigation.
The Traffic Department highlighted several ongoing projects, such as the smart operations room and the registration of 20 intellectual works in road safety. Upcoming initiatives include a unified smart system for managing violations, the Wasl project to enhance digital connectivity with local partners, a new digital fines platform and a driver behaviour monitoring system.
Dubai Police is also developing Area 56, a fully digital environment designed to support traffic operations.
Officials noted that Dubai’s population, estimated at around 8.55 million in 2024, continues to place pressure on the transport network. Last year recorded 157 road fatalities, with major causes including sudden swerving, failure to maintain safe distance, negligence, stopping in live lanes and running red lights.
Targeted campaigns aim to reduce violations
Awareness efforts reached more than twenty million people, while social media campaigns generated over one point eight billion views. Dubai Police has also improved regional coordination by activating electronic integration with traffic systems across GCC countries, facilitating information exchange and faster processing of violations.
Targeted campaigns focusing on delivery motorcycle riders, conducted with public and private sector partners, led to a 19.4 per cent increase in recorded violations, reaching 27,353 cases in 2024.
The department acknowledged ongoing challenges linked to population growth, rising vehicle numbers and the expected introduction of self-driving cars. Authorities said they are preparing solutions that support the Dubai Police’s 2033 vision for zero road fatalities.
Lieutenant General Al Marri commended the progress made and reaffirmed the force’s commitment to smart planning, strong partnerships, advanced technology and continuous community awareness to maintain Dubai’s position as a global leader in road safety and innovation.
