The master developer behind Dubai’s Motor City says he is confident the wider Dubailand precinct would be built after several projects were stalled during Dubai’s downturn.
Ahmed Khalaf Obaid Bin Touq Al Marri, general manager of Union Properties, which is developing Motor City, said progress with both Studio City and Sports City were signs Dubailand was again on track.
“I cannot decide on the site of the Dubailand, but I hear from people that Studio City, they are already starting something, Sports City also they already announced a new project,” he told Arabian Business at Cityscape Global.
“Dubailand, it is a Government company, and they have their own projects already. Suspension of that project (was) just for a time.”
He added: “Now, Sheikh Mohammad, he’s already announced the canal, and also Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid City. So, it will come, but it is in the pipeline of the Government plan.”
Unveiled in 2003, Dubailand was due to be the largest collection of theme parks in the world and twice the size of Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort.
While it was one of the large projects to be mothballed during the downturn resulting from the global financial crisis, it has begun to reengage investors and developers and is again announcing new projects and plans.
This week, it emerged that Dubailand, which is managed by Dubai Properties Group, and Dubai’s Pacific Ventures Limited, had signed a deal to launch a new residential development on land at Dubailand, with completion planned in 2019.
The Pacific Village project will feature a total of 65 residential villas, 102 four bedroom townhouses and a number of two bedroom apartments and will be located between Dubai International Airport and Al-Maktoum International Airport in the heart of Dubailand, a statement said.
According to its official website, Dubailand areas that have been completed included Global Village, MotorCity and Dubai Outlet Mall.
Future plans for Dubailand feature developments such as City of Arabia, Palmarosa and Dubai Lifestyle City in addition to Universal Studios and LEGOLAND.
UP confirmed to Arabian Business that it has permanently scrapped plans for a F1-branded theme park and revealed proposals for a new mixed-use redevelopment at the site in Dubailand.
It also revealed at Cityscape a replica of the famous Champs-Élysées area of Paris among the new designs launched at the Cityscape Global real estate exhibition in Dubai.
