Atlantis Dubai is recruiting full-time mermaid divers for The Lost Chambers Aquarium, according to a job posting shared by the resort this week.
The position, posted on LinkedIn, requires performers to “swim gracefully in a mermaid tail”, take part in underwater shows and meet and greets, and support the aquarium’s wider marine presentations.
Applicants must be certified free divers who can hold their breath for extended periods and pass an annual swim test. They must also work safely alongside sharks, rays and other marine species, following procedures in the Atlantis Dubai Dive Operations Manual. As the listing notes, team members must maintain a “safe, secure and healthy work environment for both people and animals”.
Beyond performance, mermaid divers are responsible for rehearsals, costume fittings, dive logging and the “care, maintenance and cleaning of mermaid costumes and equipment”. The role requires endurance, strong swimming skills and the ability to perform repetitive movements while wearing a monofin for extended periods.
The position sits among a wide range of niche and highly specialised hospitality roles already found at Atlantis Dubai. The resort employs marine mammal specialists, aquarists, marine educators, water quality technicians and lifeguards, who support the daily operations of its aquarium, marine exhibits and waterpark. Atlantis also employs guest activities animators, VIP services staff and certified sommeliers in its restaurants.
Unusual roles have long existed across the global hospitality sector, from themed experience designers to hotel odour judges tasked with identifying lingering smells in guest rooms.
The mermaid diver vacancy features a package that includes a tax-free salary paid in UAE dirhams, medical and dental insurance, annual flights home, life insurance and discounted stays across Kerzner International properties. The listing also highlights learning and development opportunities as part of the role.
Atlantis Dubai, which operates Atlantis The Palm and Atlantis The Royal, employs more than 6,000 colleagues from 129 nationalities.
