UAE residents are among the world’s highest per capita spenders on beauty products, forking out up to $239 (AED878) in 2016, according to the latest figures from Euromonitor International.
The figures, which were released alongside annual Dubai-based exhibition Beautyworld Middle East 2017, showed the Gulf country was ranked seventh in the world, up two places since 2015.
Dubai alone traded $5.6bn (AED20.7bn) worth of perfumes and cosmetics in 2016 and imported, exported, and re-exported $1.4bn (AED5bn) worth of products in the first quarter of 2017, according to figures by Dubai Customs.
The Middle East and North Africa region as a whole spent a whopping $30bn (AED110bn) on beauty and personal care items in 2016.
Beautyworld Middle East is the region’s largest international trade fair for beauty products, hair, fragrances, and wellbeing. It acts as a platform for regional traders, professionals, and international manufacturers.
It took place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre and attracted 42,012 visitors, marking a 13 percent growth in visitors.
Spanning 55,000sqm, the three-day event also increased 11.5 per cent in size year-on-year.
The 23rd edition of Beautyworld Middle East will take place from 8-10 May 2018.
