Marks & Spencer to open first store in Egypt

New shop to open in next 12 months; in conjunction with Al Futtaim Group.

UK retailer Marks & Spencer announced plans on Tuesday to open its first store in the Egyptian capital Cairo during the next 12 months.

According to a statement, the British chain will then open another store – its flagship in the country – in Cairo Festival City in spring 2012.

Both new stores will be opened in conjuction with the British retailer’s Middle East partner Al Futtaim, according to a press statement.

Marks & Spencer’s first store will be located in Dandy Mega Mall. Trading over 2,600 sq m, the shop will offer family fashion, beauty and home products.

The flagship store will trade over two floors on a total of 4,400 sq m, the statement said.

Philip Evans, director commercial and retail leasing, AFGRE, said the new store would be a “welcome addition to our retail mix.”
