UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the provision of additional humanitarian relief aid worth $100 million to Ukrainian civilians affected by the Ukraine crisis, WAM reported.
The move follows a day after the UAE President spoke to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“During the call, the two sides discussed cooperation between the two countries, in addition to developments in the Ukraine crisis and the importance of de-escalation and reducing tensions through dialogue and diplomatic solutions,” WAM reported.
Ukraine’s Zelenskyy further extended his gratitude to Sheikh Mohamed for the UAE’s support at the United Nations.
Sheikh Mohamed assured that the UAE will continue to exert all possible efforts to prevent the worsening of the crisis through humanitarian and economic assistance in order to mitigate the impact of the ongoing conflict with Russia.
The UAE leader and the Ukrainian President also underscored that the Ukraine crisis has “serious ramifications worldwide, including by posing challenges to the global economy and international peace and security,” WAM said.
Aside from this, Sheikh Mohamed also thanked President Zelenskyy for his confidence in the nation’s efforts to mediate on humanitarian issues, food security, and other matters.
“Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, underscored that the additional aid stems from the belief of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed in the importance of solidarity in times of war and conflict, and the UAE’s continued efforts to mitigate the humanitarian impact of the Ukraine crisis,” WAM reported.
