Gallery: Jantar Mantar astronomical instruments of ancient India
Jantar Mantar is an array of Indian astronomical instruments. It consists of 13 architectural astronomy instruments. The observatory is made up of geometric devices in the form of what appears to be modern architecture. These are for measuring time, predicting eclipses and tracking stars. The Maharaja Jai Singh II had built a total of five such facilities in India, including the ones at New Delhi, Ujjain, Mathura and Varansiand, though the Jaipur observatory is the largest and best preserved.
