Petrochemical company Borouge Plc has announced the launch of the UAE’s first locally manufactured low-density polyethylene (LDPE) grade for healthcare applications, marking a major milestone for the country’s industrial and healthcare sectors.
Revealed at ADIPEC 2025, the new polymer, Bormed™ LE6607-PH, is produced at Borouge’s Ruwais facility and designed for use in sterile pharmaceutical and medical packaging.
The innovation follows the company’s debut earlier this year of its first locally made healthcare polypropylene product, further expanding Borouge’s healthcare portfolio.
The new LDPE grade will play a key role in strengthening the UAE’s healthcare supply chain and supporting the “Make it in the Emirates” initiative, which aims to enhance local manufacturing, attract investment, and promote economic diversification.
Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chief Executive Officer of Borouge, said: “This launch positions Borouge at the forefront of healthcare-grade production in the UAE, strengthening our leadership across the region. By streamlining access to high-quality medical materials, we are proactively advancing our healthcare portfolio with locally manufactured polymers that meet international standards.”
He added that the development reinforces Borouge’s commitment to innovation, local production, and the delivery of high-value solutions across the Middle East and Asia.
Developed using Borealis’ Bormed™ technology, Bormed™ LE6607-PH is an additive-free LDPE tailored for pharmaceutical and medical packaging, including blow-fill-seal bottles, ampoules, and other sterile containers.
The material is engineered to meet the strict purity, stability, and compliance standards required by the EU and US Pharmacopoeia, ensuring safe and reliable use in aseptic processing.
Producing this grade in the UAE enables healthcare manufacturers to benefit from shorter lead times, greater supply reliability, and improved quality assurance, reducing reliance on imports and enhancing patient safety.
The introduction of Bormed™ LE6607-PH builds on the earlier success of Bormed™ RG868MO, Borouge’s first UAE-made healthcare polymer, launched earlier this year.
