Dubai Customs thwarts massive narcotics smuggling attempt

Dubai Customs has intercepted 147.4 kilograms of narcotics and psychotropic substances at a strategic seaport, preventing their entry into the emirate, the organisation announced on Tuesday.

The operation was executed through advanced screening systems that identified irregularities in a transiting shipment.

Inspection teams, supported by the K9 Unit, conducted a thorough examination that revealed the concealed illicit substances, according to a statement by the Dubai Media Office.

“The successful foiling of this smuggling attempt is a testament to our commitment to national security and the protection of our economy,” he said. “This milestone reflects the ongoing advancement of our customs framework—one that integrates advanced technologies, skilled personnel, and proactive strategies to secure our borders. Dubai remains resilient in the face of criminal networks, and we are committed to maintaining the highest levels of preparedness and protection,” Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation said.

Legal procedures have been initiated in coordination with relevant enforcement bodies, reinforcing Dubai’s stance against illicit trade.
