A video of an Emirati man being approached by armed US police officer who mistook him for a member of ISIL has emerged on YouTube.

The clip, captured by a police bodycam, ends with the man collapsing and being taken to hospital.

In the video, Avon police officers carrying assault rifles approach a hotel entrance, where a man dressed in traditional Arab clothing is talking on phone in Arabic.

Police officers yell at the man to get on the ground before handcuffing him. The man is frisked before an officer takes his wallet, mobile phone, passport and other documents.

After recognising the incident is a false alarm, police removed the handcuffs. But moments later, he collapses and is taken for medical treatment.

The incident happened on June 29 at around 6pm after a female clerk working at the Fairfield Inn called 911, alleging that a hotel patron pledged allegiance to the terror group, it was reported.

A report in the UK’s The Independent newspaper identified the man as Ahmad Al Menhali 41, from Abu Dhabi, who was in the US for medical reasons. The man was taken to the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, said the report.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Gulf News they were speaking with the UAE Embassy in Washington about the incident.
