Dubai-based real estate developer Meraas on Tuesday announced plans to build a retail village selling luxury brands at discount prices.
Meraas said its Outlet Village project would be built over 20,000 sq m in Dubai and when completed will include 160 shops.
Construction of the Outlet Village is scheduled to begin in 2013, Meraas added in a statement.
Phase-one of the development will feature 100 high-end brands, while the second phase will consist of an additional 60 stores.
“With Dubai’s tourism industry marking exponential growth, the Outlet Village is envisioned to emerge as an iconic and a must-visit destination for visitors and residents alike,” Meraas said in the statement.
It added that the project’s concept takes inspiration from outlet villages that exist across the UK and Europe.
The Outlet Village will be located at the intersection of Al Khail and Umm Suqeim Road.
The announcement follows Meraas’ showcase of two new developments at Cityscape Global 2012 – The Beach and Island 2.
The Beach is a retail, food and beverage and entertainment destination that will take shape at the Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) between the beachfront and existing promenade.
The Island 2 is a mixed-use development designed as a high-end boutique resort featuring low rise apartment buildings and a marina.
