Two of the world’s most prestigious names in the hotel world – Raffles and Fairmont – will join Qatar’s growing hospitality offering by the third quarter of this year. This will be in time for the FIFA World Cup 2022 which starts in November.
It is considered a milestone development for the sector and for Qatar as the two properties will be housed in the iconic Katara Towers, an architectural landmark built in tribute to Qatar’s national emblem of two intertwined scimitar swords.
Both the Raffles Doha and Fairmont Doha will offer five-star suites and “will be beacons to hospitality excellence and to Qatar’s contemporary ambitions” according to Accor which owns both the brands.
Raffles Doha will feature 132 suites and Fairmont Doha will include 362 guest rooms and suites.
Katara Hospitality, a leading global hotel owner, developer and operator based in Qatar, owns the Katara Towers.
When the project was announced in February, Sheikh Nawaf bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani, the chairman of Katara Hospitality, said: “The world’s most loved cities are often identified through imagery and landmark buildings. We strongly believe the property we are developing will provide Qatar with an architectural symbol that is known and understood right across the globe.
“Our aim is to create the hospitality icon of the 21st Century that is within one of the world’s most exciting urban developments. Our vision is to set new standards that go beyond the borders of the hospitality industry and provide a landmark location that is instantly recognised internationally.”
Qatar plans to add 105 new hotels and hotel apartments to its portfolio of properties as the country gears up to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The new properties aim to broaden Qatar’s appeal to a range of travellers and enhance the visitor experience as Qatar tourism continues its mission to turn the country into a world-class holiday destination.
