The Saudi Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA) to enhance collaboration in the establishment, development, and operation of tourist marinas.
Under the agreement, the ministry and SRSA will strengthen joint efforts to establish maintenance centres for watercraft, improve beaches, and promote coastal tourism destinations, contributing to the development of coastal tourism in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
Deputy Minister of Municipalities and Housing for Licensing and Project Coordination Mohamed Al-Mulhim and Chief Executive Officer of SRSA Mohamed Al Nasser signed the MoU.
Saudi marine tourism
This agreement aligns with the responsibilities of SRSA, which include establishing regulations, standards, and guidelines for tourist marinas, as well as developing, managing, operating, and overseeing these harbours.
SRSA is also tasked with ensuring the protection of the marine environment in areas with maritime tourism activities while marketing these activities to attract enthusiasts.
The MoU will streamline the processing of requests for the establishment, development, and operation of tourist marinas through the Balady Platform.
The marinas will be constructed in accordance with the Saudi Building Code and the approved design and planning code for tourist marinas.
The agreement further addresses commercial and operational municipal licensing requirements related to the marinas, including the establishment of marine fuelling stations.
