Two classic BMW cars from the company’s private collection will be auctioned in Dubai by Bonhams in October, the carmaker announced in a statement on Tuesday.
A BMW M1 and a BMW 3.0 CSL, which “rank among the icons of BMW’s automotive heritage,” will be sold to the highest bidder at the auction to be held at the Royal Mirage Hotel.
It is the first time that any BMW Classic car from the German car manufacturer’s own collection has been put up for auction, the firm said.
The BMW M1 is one of the carmaker’s rarest models, with only 456 vehicles ever made. It was originally produced in 1978 as a collaboration between Lamborghini and BMW, and recognised as a groundbreaking car for the industry at the time because of its power, performance and design.
Meanwhile, the two-door coupe BMW 3.0 CSL was the first car to sport the BMW Motorsport red, blue and purple badge. This model became successful not just on road but also on the racing track, the statement said.
Since the 1990s, both cars have been owned by BMW Classic, and its forerunner BMW Mobile Tradition, where they were restored and displayed at special events like the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
