The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR) has unveiled its new Visitor Centre, in celebration of World Animal Day.
Offering an immersive introduction to the indigenous flora and fauna of the UAE, the centre opened its doors to the public today, and aims to raise awareness about habitat conservation and the accomplishments of the Reserve.
“We are pleased to enhance the experience of visitors to the DDCR, and help promote awareness of habitat conservation and the achievements of the Reserve. With the busy winter season coming, we look forward to welcoming guests to the visitor centre and fostering in them an appreciation for Dubai’s wildlife and nature,” Ali Mubarak Al Soori, Executive Vice President of Facilities, Projects Management & Group Procurement & Supply Chain at the Emirates Group said.
The DDCR Visitor Centre is divided into five areas, for an overall educational experience.
The reception hall features photography showcasing the Arabian Oryx in their natural habitat, along with interactive tools for exploring the Reserve.
The cultural hall presents the history and milestones of the DDCR, including its contributions to desert heritage, such as falconry, date farming, and camel farming.
Visitors can enjoy a short, informative film in the AV hall, while the habitat hall showcases indigenous flora and fauna through 3D-printed models, holographic displays, and interactive kiosks.
A dome display in the nocturnal hall uses cutting-edge technology to provide an immersive view of the nocturnal wildlife of the DDCR.
Life-sized replicas of the Arabian Hare throughout the Centre offer audio explanations, and Oryx hoofprints on the ground guide visitors through the halls.
After exploring the exhibits, visitors can venture out for real wildlife spotting or enjoy panoramic views of the open desert from an elevated viewing platform.
Initially, the DDCR Visitor Centre will cater to school groups and safari experience participants through approved tour operators.
However, walk-in visitors are also welcome, with a nominal entry fee of AED35 for adults and AED25 for children.
