Dubai Police have arrested numerous motorists who engaged in dangerous driving and performed life-threatening stunts on public roads during rainy weather conditions.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic, confirmed that the arrests swiftly followed the circulation of viral videos on social media platforms depicting drivers undertaking hazardous stunts on various roads throughout the emirate, particularly amid rainfall.
Bin Suwaidan said the traffic patrols identified and arrested the drivers involved in these violations and reckless behaviour.
Stressing on the severity of such actions, Brig. bin Suwaidan cautioned against reckless driving, underlining the legal repercussions for endangering lives and public safety.
He said that the law imposes penalties for driving in a manner that endangers the lives, safety, and security of both the driver and others on the road.
In addition, he added that there will be legal consequences for causing damage to public or private facilities.
Dubai Police: Reckless acts continue
Despite the admonitions previously issued by the Dubai Police, some drivers continued to exhibit reckless behavior during inclement weather.
Bin Suwaidan noted that impounded vehicles exhibited multiple infractions, including performing stunts, causing chaos, reckless driving that endangered fellow road users, and illegal vehicle modifications leading to excessive noise pollution.
Bin Suwaidan outlined the efforts of the General Department of Traffic, which has intensified traffic patrols to rein in this subset of drivers.
He stressed the importance of road safety and indicated that the implicated drivers have been handed over to the Public Prosecution for further legal action.

Moreover, he highlighted that the duration of vehicle impoundment varies according to the violation’s nature and the fines mandated by the Federal Traffic Law. Zero tolerance is maintained for dangerous violations, including reckless stunts, he underscored.
Bin Suwaidan also appealed to parents to monitor their children’s actions and educate them about the potential repercussions of such behaviours, adding that family involvement is important in traffic safety efforts.
He added that there are designated areas are available for car drifting activities.
