Schools will be closed for the entire week starting Monday, 2 May to Friday, 6 May to mark Eid al-Fitr at the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

This translates to a nine-day school holiday for Eid al-Fitr, which will begin on the weekend, Saturday, 30 April, with schools set to open again on Monday, May 9.

The week-long holiday was announced by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), which is the educational quality assurance and regulatory authority of the Government of Dubai.

Eid al-Fitr holidays for the public and private sector in Dubai

Earlier this month, the UAE Cabinet has approved a week-long Eid al-Fitr holiday for all federal government entities operating across the country.

The Eid al-Fitr holidays for the public sector will start from Saturday, 30 April through Friday, 6 May, 2022.

Federal employees will resume duties after the Saturday-Sunday weekend on Monday, 9 May, 2022, in line with the Monday-Friday working week.

For all private sector workers, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation revealed that the period from 29th Ramadan through 3rd Shawwal 1443 will be a paid Eid holiday for all private sector workers. Those dates are anticipated to translate to the period between Saturday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 4.

Meanwhile, the International Astronomical Centre said that 2 May will be the first day of Eid al-Fitr in most countries, as the crescent of Shawwal 1443 AH is likely to be seen on Saturday, 30 April, corresponding to 29 Ramadan.

The director of the centre, Muhammad Shawkat Odeh, noted that in countries that began Ramadan on Sunday, 3 April, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Oman, Jordan, Morocco and Ghana, the crescent of Shawwal will be seen on Sunday, 1st May.
