Elon Musk spoke at the World Government Summit 2023 in Dubai, where he addressed topics including Tesla, Twitter and possibly hiring a new CEO. Tesla was “really on the verge of bankruptcy for quite a while,” Musk explained to the attendees at the summit during his virtual talk.
“Twitter is certainly quite the rollercoaster,” he said, addressing his other venture which has gone through a wave of changes since his multi-billion purchase of the platform.
“I was a little worried about the effect of social media on the world, especially Twitter, and I thought it was very important for it to be a maximally trusted digital public square where people around the world could communicate with the least amount of censorship,” he added.
The Twitter CEO touched upon ‘difficult times’ for Tesla where it was on the edge of survival ‘if I didn’t give it everything I got, the company could have easily gone bankrupt,” Musk said.
He explained that it is lesser work to operate Tesla now than it was between 2017-2019 and that the focus has been shifted from Tesla to Twitter for which he is looking to hire a new CEO later this year.
“Towards the end of this year would be good timing to find someone else to run the company,” Musk explained.
The World Government Summit took place from February 13-15 in Dubai where it saw 20 presidents, 250 ministers, 10,000 government officials and thought and business pioneers, including Elon Musk and IMF and WEF leaders.
