Over hundreds of people were rescued after they were reported to have been stranded on a tourist spot atop a mountain in Sharjah due to heavy rains.
UAE authorities rushed to help 350 people to safety, when fallen rocks blocked a road leading to the Khor Fakkan Cloud Lounge.
Sharjah Police’s director general of central operations Brigadier General Ahmed Al Naour said: “A task force was set up immediately to respond to the incident.”
He added: “Our teams are highly prepared and ready to deal with challenges that may happen as a result of natural factors.”
Along with the Sharjah Police, ambulances and civil defence teams were sent to the scene on Sunday as well.
No injuries or damaged vehicles were reported.
The Khor Fakkan Cloud Lounge is an observation point, which allows visitors to view the country’s east coast and the Gulf of Oman 600 metres above sea level.
It was inaugurated in July 2021 by Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi.
