Dell has announced that Orion Holdings is the first Middle East company to adopt the latest CXF data storage system jointly developed by Dell and EMC. The deal has been announced at GITEX Technology Week.
“The new generation of Dell storage products provides incredible amounts of scalability and addresses the needs of customers like Orion,” says James Quarles, director of marketing for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
“Within the Middle East, we’re finding a large growth in the economy. For financial organisations like Orion, you see the same degree of data growth, especially in a market like Dubai, and they are running out of storage space.
“Even now when budgets are flat, data continues to grow, whether it’s through email exchange, attachments, business intelligence or corporate data. It has been forecast that between now and 2011, the amount of data storage will be six times what we have today. So in this kind of environment, customers need scalability for storage to grow with them to meet their needs.”
The fourth-generation of Dell/EMC’s CX family of storage systems addresses this with its multi-protocol flexibility and massive scalability. They offer four models that form the foundation of an enterprise storage architecture that is easy to deploy, manage and upgrade. The CX4 storage arrays feature the latest UltraFlex I/O technology that gives customers excellent flexibility and control.
“The market in this region is at an advantage because many of the companies don’t have legacy investments in prior technology. In other parts of the world, companies have 70% of their budgets tied up in maintaining legacy systems.
Middle East customers can choose the best of current technologies in order to meet the growth expected from the construction and expansion of businesses, as well as some of the trading lines that a company like Orion holds,” explains Quarles.
“For many new businesses and data centres here, it’s an opportunity to start with a fresh sheet. I think that freedom and flexibility to select the best platforms, to experiment and bet on these new technologies that can be deployed more quickly, is a particular advantage in this region.”
