Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways has booked more than 2,000 hotel rooms in the UAE capital in order to accommodate passengers whose flights were disrupted as a result of severe fog at Abu Dhabi International Airport at the weekend.
The UAE airline has also put in place additional staff to assist passengers and is continuing to work around the clock to restore it’s flight schedule to normal, it said in a statement on Monday.
The airport was closed at 2.30am on Saturday, resulting in seven inbound flights being diverted to three UAE airports, while a further 20 return flights were cancelled.
“Those passengers still due to fly to, from, or through Abu Dhabi, up to and including Tuesday 6 January, are still encouraged to rebook their flights through Etihad Airways’ global contact centres… Etihad Airways will waive normal cancellation and refund fees during this period,” it said in a statement.
It was the third closure at Abu Dhabi International Airport in a matter of weeks due to fog.
